Our People:
Stewart Vorberg
Stewart “Stew” Vorberg has been a pioneer and innovator on the West Coast investment dealer scene for the past four decades. Stew began his career on Bay Street as a desk trader for Burns Brothers and Denton then moved to Howe Street where he built and ran the Doherty Roadhouse (later the Midland Walwyn / Merrill Lynch) trading operation.
Not only has Stew enjoyed an extremely successful career as an Investment Advisor, with the ability to spot promising junior companies but he is also very well known as a master team builder and creator of innovative and successful retail and trading operations.
With a keen eye for talent he was the founder of Yorkton Securities’, Vancouver office in 1979 and London, England operations in 1983. Stew’s abilities to identify and hire talented key personnel for those offices led to the even greater expansion of Yorkton which opened both Paris and Zurich offices.
Stew’s vision and hiring talents were directly responsible for the creation of Yorkton’s Natural Resources Group (the “ NRG Group”). The NRG Group became a powerhouse in Canadian mineral exploration and development syndication and its’ accomplishments are greatly admired to this day. One of Stew’s hires went on to become the Chairman of Yorkton Securities and one of the most successful and respected investors and philanthropists in Canada.
Stew decided to join Jordan Capital Markets Inc. to put his expert team building skills back to work. When asked why he wants to build another powerhouse retail and trading team Stew responded; “The most fun I’ve ever had in this business were the days when I was building up firms. I love meeting, hiring and watching talented people succeed. It’s time for Western Canada to have another exciting and innovative broker dealer and I want to be a part of that.”
